A BRIEF HISTORY

The Dunwoody Community Garden and Orchard at Brook Run (DCGO) was founded in 2009 by a handful of Dunwoody residents seeking a sunny location for family-friendly organic gardening.  The Garden’s location within Brook Run Park was facilitated by DeKalb County and the just-forming City of Dunwoody.  Two unused greenhouses and a barn, formerly part of the now-closed Georgia Retardation Center, were also made available for DCGO’s use. The organic orchard was added in 2012.

The original 60 raised beds have been expanded to 96 member-leased raised beds plus an additional 40+ raised beds dedicated to growing food for Malachi’s Storehouse, a local food bank at Saint Patrick’s Episcopal Church on N. Peachtree.

OUR MISSION

The Garden provides an opportunity for members to grow food organically year-round, educates and mentors others in the community about sustainable growing practices, and dedicates a portion of its space for growing food for charitable purposes.
